What you need to register for MyFTB
You’ll need this information to register and create a MyFTB account.
Individuals
- Email address
- Your social security number
- Your name and address we have on file [i]
- Information from a filed and processed CA tax return for 1 of the last 5 tax years (original returns only, no amended returns):
- Year of the tax return
- Filing status used on the tax return
- CA adjusted gross income (AGI) on the tax return
[i] After you register, we mail you a Personal Identification Number (PIN). In order to receive your PIN, your current address must be on file. If you have not filed a CA tax return for 1 of the last 5 tax years, you cannot register for an account used to access your tax account information.
Business representatives
- Email address
- Your company type and account number:
- Corporation: 7-digit California Corporation ID number
- Limited Liability Company (LLC): 9 or 12-digit Secretary of State (SOS) ID number
- Partnership: 9-digit Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
- The business address we have on file [i]
- Information from a filed and processed CA tax return for 1 of the last 5 tax years (original returns only, no amended returns):
- Year of the tax return
- Type of tax return
- Net income (loss) on the tax return

If your business has not filed a CA tax return for 1 of the last 5 tax years, you cannot register.
Registration tip for business representatives
If you represent more than one business, you only need to create one MyFTB account. Use information from one of the businesses you represent to create your account. After you receive your PIN via U.S. Mail and log in to activate your account, you can add additional businesses to your account.
Tax professionals
- Email address
- Your social security number
- One of the following:
- PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number): 9-digit number
- California CPA number (Certified Public Accountant): 5 or 6-digit number
- Enrolled Agents: Use your PTIN or EA number. Your EA number must have a California address on file with the IRS.
- California State Bar number: 3 to 6-digit number
Registration tip for tax professionals
- We recommend you register using your PTIN
- This allows us to automatically display POA clients on your client list if the POA declaration was submitted after October 1, 2014, and includes your PTIN
- After you register, we mail you a Personal Identification Number (PIN) you use to activate your account. We mail the PIN to the address associated to the tax professional ID you provided during registration. For example, if you register for MyFTB using your PTIN, we mail your PIN to the address provided to the IRS when you renewed or registered for your PTIN.
