  1. Where can I get a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability?

    We sent a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability (NRL) form with the Demand for Payment Notice. You can also complete the DMV's NRL form online.

  2. My vehicle is non-operational. What do I need to do?

    Refer to Reporting Vehicle Status (Non-Operational) or call DMV at 916.657.8120.

  3. My vehicle was junked. What do I need to do?

    Refer to How to Register a Junked Vehicle or call DMV at 916.657.8120.

  4. I no longer own the vehicle. What do I need to do?

    Complete the Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability (REG 138). Enter the date of sale. Take the completed form to your local DMV office or mail it to us in the envelope we provided with the billing notice.

  5. My vehicle is no longer located in California. What do I need to do?

    On the FTB Demand for Payment Notice (FTB 2205), complete the information on page #3 of the Demand Notice.

    • Check the box labeled "Check here if the vehicle is currently registered out of state."
    • Provide the date the vehicle left California.
    • Sign and date the form.

    Take the form to DMV or mail it to us in the envelope we provided with the Demand for Payment Notice.

  6. My vehicle was stolen. What do I need to do?

    Refer to Statement of Lost, Stolen, or Surrendered Plate (OL 247) or call DMV at 916.657.8120.
