Amnesty final payoff notices being mailed

PURPOSE OF BULLETIN

To advise staff that approximately 500 BE and 17,000 PIT Amnesty Final Payoff Notices will be mailed on April 17, 2006, to taxpayers in Amnesty installment agreements.

BACKGROUND

Taxpayers who applied for Amnesty installment agreements agreed to pay their balances due by June 30, 2006. Taxpayers who do not comply are subject to restoration of the original penalties and fees that were previously waived, plus the assessment of the 50 percent interest-based Amnesty penalty.

PROCESS

The notices will provide taxpayers with several options to pay their Amnesty tax year balances in full. Options to pay are:

  • By check or money order
  • Online at www.ftb.ca.gov
  • By credit card by contacting Official Payments Corporation directly. By phone: (800) 272-9829 (jurisdiction code 1555). Online: www.officialpayments.com (select Payment Center tab, select State Payment, and follow the prompts).

This notice encourages taxpayers to call FTB if they cannot pay in full by June 30, 2006, or if they are unable to use one of the above-listed options.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

These notices will not contain information that is specific to a taxpayer's account and will not be viewable by taxpayers on our Website. A case history comment will not be created in a taxpayer's ARCS or TI account that indicates this notice was mailed. These notices will contain PIT and BE Collections phone numbers and are viewable at the links below:

  • PIT Notice
  • BE Notice

Note:

Payments made before June 30, 2006, or before the Amnesty installment agreement is actually defaulted, will be treated as paid during the Amnesty program period. Only the pro rata amount of the unpaid balance will result in restoration of waived penalties/fees and imposition of the Amnesty penalty.
