New enrollment requirements for e-file providers

PURPOSE OF BULLETIN

To inform staff of the new e-file program enrollment requirements for e-file providers.

Note: e-file providers are preparers, transmitters, and software developers who participate in our e-file program. This does not include taxpayers who e-file their own returns.

BACKGROUND

Beginning August 2007, FTB no longer requires e-file providers to submit a separate enrollment application for authorization to electronically file individual or business tax returns.

Providers who are approved in the IRS Electronic Filing Program are now automatically enrolled in the California e-file Program. In addition, we automatically receive any updates that are made to their IRS account.
