Sacramento – The state of California has announced tax relief for those impacted by the winter storms in California.

The California Franchise Tax Board today confirmed that most Californians have until November 16, 2023, to file and pay their tax year 2022 taxes to avoid penalties.
State Controller and Franchise Tax Board (FTB) Chair Malia M. Cohen will be available for interviews about this season’s state tax trends from 7:30 am to 9:00 am on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Franchise Tax Board in Sacramento.

Sacramento -- The Franchise Tax Board announced it will soon begin mailing Notices of Tax Return Change – Revised Balance (FTB 5818B) as a reminder and courtesy to taxpayers. The notices will be mailed starting the first week in July.
Washington -- Victims of Severe Winter Storms, Straight-line Winds, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides in California that began on Feb. 21, 2023, now have until Aug. 15, 2023, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service announced today.
Supporting ongoing storm response and recovery efforts, Governor Gavin Newsom today proclaimed a state of emergency in the counties of Contra Costa, Riverside, San Diego, and Yolo, which join the 47 counties for which the Governor has previously proclaimed a state of emergency since the start of severe winter storms in late February.
