How to e-file

California driver’s license or state ID card information is not required to e-file a California tax return. However, this may expedite the processing of your return and we ask for your assistance to help us combat ID theft.

Forms FTB 8453 and FTB 8453-OL

You must sign form FTB 8453 , California e-file Return Authorization for Individuals or FTB 8453-OL, California Online e-file Return Authorization for Individuals before you or your tax professional e-files your return. By signing, you agree that your return can be sent to us.

This form has a summary of your tax return, with the amount of your refund or the amount you owe. You can also choose:

  • To have your refund deposited directly into your bank account
  • To pay by electronic funds withdrawal
