Rohnert Park Senior Center
April 2008

Sue helps a client with her tax return.

Every Friday, from February through mid-April, Rohnert Park Senior Center is bustling with activity. Seniors go to the center for FREE tax counseling and return preparation. Twelve certified volunteers assist from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, two volunteers take appointments on Mondays.

Last year the center assisted over a thousand taxpayers. This year the center expects to exceed that amount, particularly with the assistance to seniors filing for the Stimulus Rebate.

Rosalind Morino, an AARP volunteer since 1994, coordinates the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program and runs a smooth operation! Rosalind and two other volunteers, Martha Gustafson and Bob Gross, Jr., are also available year-round to provide seniors with tax information, prepare previous-year returns, file amended returns, and help answer letters from the IRS and FTB.

A volunteer helps prepare a return while clients wait their turn.

The center is a great example of the benefits gained from the cooperative efforts of volunteers who dedicate their time to help others. “Good job!” to site-of-the-month—Rohnert Park Senior Center!

The center is one of many locations throughout California that provide free tax service to qualifying individuals. To find a site near you, go to our website and search for VITA.
